February Meeting – 2019

February’s meeting will include Tony Rekeweg from Decatur, Indiana.
Tony Rekeweg is the owner of Rekeweg Honey Company. Tony runs around 600 hives in Northeast Indiana with the help of his parents, wife, and sister. Rekeweg Honey Co. supplies around 40 stores with honey products to sell. Tony is a member of the Northeast Indiana Beekeepers Association, The Beekeepers of Indiana and the American Beekeeping Federation. For the last 3 years Rekeweg Honey Co. has sent a semi load of hives out to California for almond pollination. Tony has won the beeswax block division at the annual American Beekeeping Federation honey show for the last three years and has won numerous blue ribbons for beeswax at the Indiana State Fair. Tony’s presentation will deal with how to process and clean beeswax. Melting down and cleaning cappings will be discussed along with using a solar wax melter or steam to clean light combs. Tony will explain using a wax press to clean dark combs and slumgum. We will also take a look at what can be done with beeswax after is has been rendered. Finally the presentation will touch on how to easily repair frames damaged by wax moths and small hive beetles by recoating them with beeswax.
